In Makarska, a popular cultural event is entering the next round: The tourist board is continuing the project „Maestrale“ for the fifth consecutive year. From this Wednesday onwards, locals and holidaymakers can once again look forward to the popular performative city tours through the historic centre of the coastal town.
Under the name „Maestrale DETOUR“, city guide and concept author Agata Ravlić – whose work was recently awarded by the Split-Dalmatia County – brings the history of Makarska to life. During the tours, the historical everyday life as well as the cultural heritage of the city are made tangible through stories and interactive performances. She is supported by local actors, including the folklore ensemble „Tempet“, local Klapa singing groups, musicians, as well as senior women who slip into traditional roles.
Culinary premiere for the tourism anniversary
Since Makarska is celebrating the 120th anniversary of organised tourism this year, the programme is being expanded with a new highlight: In September, the culinary storytelling tour „Feed Your Soul“ will start.
This new route combines the local history with the gastronomy of the region. Visitors can get to know the city through scents, flavours and traditional Croatian products, while also learning more about the people who have shaped tourism in the harbour town. These gourmet tours will take place in English every Wednesday in September.
The „Maestrale“ tours run throughout the summer and offer a bridge between the city's cultural history, its residents and its guests.
